Berkeley CA real estate is a vibrant and unique city – and fiercely independent. It is best known worldwide for the University of California at Berkeley – flagship campus to the U.C. system, and one of the best universities in the world. This lends an academic feel to the entire city, which is relatively small but maintains an international flavor yet truly Californian feel.
The city is made up of numerous niche neighborhoods, including downtown (home to the only public high school), Claremont (home to the Claremont Hotel), the Elmwood District, and fabulous College Avenue (a thriving shopping and dining area). Of course, there’s also the Gourmet Ghetto, which is known for its concentration of numerous famous restaurants (like Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse, and an overall concentration of spots for foodies everywhere!), the popular 4th Street shopping district, Thousand Oaks, the Cragmont and La Loma districts, and the Berkeley Hills.
The hills are lined with stairways and paths and boast beautiful views, while along the shoreline lies the Berkeley Marina as well as one of the coolest dog parks around.
